Reversing TSA's risky, misguided decision

America's sense of security was hijacked on September 11, 2001 when terrorists used ordinary household items to commandeer four commercial aircraft to use as weapons against us. Congress acted swiftly by prohibiting similar items from being brought onboard aircraft in the fight against terrorism. This was commonsense, as many of the prohibited items have no place onboard a passenger aircraft cabin. As a result, Congress created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to administer the security of our nations transportation infrastructure. The TSA is funded by Congress and subsequently by the American people. Now, TSA feels it is above the democratic process and has decided to issue rules that will diminish our national security and create unnecessary confusion for travelers.

Confiscated items by the TSATSA Administrator Kip Hawley has decided to unilaterally change the policies put in place to protect Americans and our transportation infrastructure and bypass Congress New TSA Rules . The new rules, which will allow potentially dangerous items back onboard the aircraft, will become effective December 22, 2005.  Who needs to bring sharp scissors or tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and wrenches - all items larger and potentially more lethal than the box cutters used on September 11th - onboard an aircraft?

That is a question that flight attendants, pilots, air marshals, the families of 9-11 and tens of thousands of American citizens have been asking. Since TSA announced that they were thinking of allowing weapons back onboard aircraft, Hawley has heard from thousands of people, scores of Congressional leaders, and has appeared before the Senate Commerce Committee who expressed their concerns with the proposed rules change. In addition, both the House of Representatives and the Senate have introduced legislation to halt lifting this ban. This is how democracy is supposed to work. However, the TSA is still moving forward to allow these potential weapons back onboard the aircraft.

The Leave All Blades Behind website has been created to give a voice to all Americans and ensure that when our government acts, it acts in accordance with the democratic principles we are fighting to instill and protect around the world.  Make your voice heard, sign the petition to TSA Administrator Hawley and let him know that the American public will not stand for taking a backwards step in our aviation security system. Join us in demanding that we maintain the Prohibited Items List and keep all dangerous items that can wreak havoc in the hands of a terrorist or even a disruptive passenger off our nations airlines.
